The STEEL-ALIVE Project aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the European industry while also supporting environmental sustainability

The project focuses on enhancing the production of steel-based Light Commercial Vehicles(LCVs) through a simplified and highly flexible manufacturing process, supported by continuous quality monitoring. The workflow is structured in three main phases:

  1. Design Requirements

STEEL-ALIVE will develop a mid-size LCV concept designed to meet the needs of urban last-mile delivery. The vehicle structure will be created using Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS), applied in both tubular and sheet forms.

  1. Technology Development

The project will introduce an innovative approach that avoids traditional manufacturing methods such as stamping or giga-casting. Instead, the proposed process will be based on the laser cutting, bending, punching and welding of AHSS components. This method will reduce the need for large-scale tooling and allow faster adaptation to different designs.

  1. Demonstration and Validation

To prove the feasibility of this new manufacturing model, STEEL-ALIVE will include a strong practical demonstration element. Specifically, three key components of the vehicle covered by the project will be produced using the developed process.
